To everyone else, you might as well try and be invisible. At least long enough so you can dictate the timing and conditions of your interactions. Giving your position away is never a good thing. That is 2nd only to being surveilled without your knowing it.

Arrow
The arrow is an ancient projectile that is still effective to this day! There are a number of methods for sending these arrows through the air at incredible and deadly speeds. All of them are nearly silent.
