UPDATED with final numbers — The second night of the Democratic National Convention saw just a slight lift in viewership as 20.8M people tuned in across 12 networks, according to Nielsen.

That’s about half a million more than the first night, once again besting the audience for the Republican National Convention, which suffered from a steep decline to just 14.8M viewers in its second night.

This is also up from the second night of the DNC in 2020, which averaged 19.2M viewers.

Night 2 of the DNC was broadcast live from Chicago from approximately 10:00 p.m. to 11:45 p.m. ET, featuring speeches from Former President Barack Obama, former First Lady Michelle Obama, Second Gentleman Doug Emhoff, and more.

According to Nielsen, Obama’s speech, from around 11:03 p.m. to 11:37 p.m. ET, tallied 21.9M viewers.

The 55+ demo made up the largest portion of the night’s average audience with about 15.5M viewers in that age range. There were 3.9M in the 35-54 demo and just under a million in the 18-34 demo.

Nielsen’s reported networks include ABC, CBS, NBC, Scripps News, CNN, CNNe, FOX Business, FOX News Channel, MSNBC, Newsmax, NewsNation, PBS. That’s minus Univision, which was included in the Night 1 tally.
