A new poll shows President Joe Biden trailing former President Donald Trump among New Hampshire registered voters by two points.The Saint Anselm College Survey Center polled more than 1,700 registered voters in the first two days after the recent presidential debate.In the poll, 44% said they support Trump, compared to 42% who said Biden was their choice. Another 4% said they planned to vote for independent candidate Robert F. The poll showed that 81% of those who watched the debate said it won’t affect their vote in November, so the trend might have started before the end of last week.”I think people are very partisan,” Levesque said. “So, they’re in their camps and they say, ‘Well, I watched the debate, but it doesn’t affect how I’m going to vote.’ But certainly, events like a presidential debate like we saw last week are pivot points in politics, and at this point, with the amount of change we’ve seen with the presidential contest, certainly the debate had an effect.”Underscoring one of the quirks of this election cycle, voters have poor opinions of both presumptive nominees. The poll showed 42% of voters with a favorable opinion of Trump, compared to 57% with an unfavorable opinion. For Biden, 39% of voters have a favorable opinion, while 59% have an unfavorable opinion of the candidate.The poll continues a rough stretch for Biden, but Levesque said it looks like Biden still has a relatively firm hold on most Democratic voters.”Sixty-seven percent of people who describe themselves as very liberal are for him,” Levesque said. “That’s a weak number, but in the end, a lot of those people will go, and they’ll end up voting for him, even if they’re holding their nose when they do it.”
