The president arrived in Washington from Japan late Sunday night, and the time for his meeting with McCarthy was not originally listed on his public schedule.

The pair also spoke over the phone while Biden was aboard Air Force One, telling reporters as he entered the White House, “It went well. We’ll talk tomorrow.”

Both leaders said they’re working toward a deal and committed to avoiding default before the soft deadline of June 1. However, they’ve got significant differences, with McCarthy focused on cutting spending and Biden saying he wants to look at taxes as well.

“There’s a lot of things that they refuse to entertain,” Biden said during a press conference before leaving Japan. “And they just said revenue is off the table. Well, revenue’s not off the table. And so that’s what we continue to have significant disagreement on, the revenue side.”

The meeting will be held in the Oval Office.
